Dear all, DISABLED PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCE OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM: 1 in 4 poll If you would spread the word about our new 1 in 4 poll to disabled people and those who support them that would be smashing. Following the landmark decision by the Scottish Parliament to pass the Hate Crime Bill, we have launched a poll to investigate disabled people’s experiences of the justice system. The poll is on our website at www.capability-scotland.org.uk. We want as many disabled people, carers, and friends and families of disabled people to complete the poll and would very much appreciate your help in circulating information about it. The poll can also be provided in alternative formats by contacting our communications department on 0131 347 1052 or by e-mail at communications@capability-scotland.org.uk. We are part of a collaborative partnership with other disability organisations (Inclusion Scotland, SDEF, Guide Dogs for the Blind, SAMH, SCLD and Communication Forum Scotland) and the Justice Disability Steering Group (JDSG) to improve disabled people’s access to justice, in the broadest sense. The JDSG was set up in 2007 by the organisations which represent the multiple areas of the justice sector in Scotland and includes representatives from the Scottish Government, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, the Scottish Court Service, the Law Society of Scotland, the Scottish Legal Aid Board and the Scottish Prison Service. The findings from this 1 in 4 poll will inform the work of the JDSG in their aim to involve disabled people in the improvement of access to services across the Scottish justice system, and to use their skills and experience to improve the Scottish justice sector for all. Thank you very much for your help in getting the poll out there and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
