Why are we here today?

What will the ILiS project do?

• support disabled people to have their voices heard
• work with disabked people to strengthen the Disabled People`s Indenpendent Living Movement in Scotland

What does `Independent living` mean?

Independent Living means disabled people of all ages having the same freedom, choice, dignity and control as other citizens at home, at work, and in the community.

It does not mean living by yourself or fending for yourself. It means rights to practical assistance and support to participate in society and live an ordibary life.

In this Video:

Jack Carr, speaking on why he decided to take action on his experiences with the disability movement and about the role of the Fife Independent Disability Network to those who are new to it.

Due to contracting gangrene he had most of his feet amputated along with parts of his fingers and due to the drugs he was on there was damage to the nerve`s in his ear`s which made him deaf.  He discovered he how had a new label “Disabled”.  Part of this video is how he dealt with this new label and how he got involved with the Fife Independent Disability Network and how he was able to use its resources to promote awareness and the requirements of people in Fife with hearing difficulty`s (not just the deaf).

Feedback on last workshop, Summing up and What Next?

• What are you going to do to make change happen?
• Write a plan of action (what, why, where, when, who, how)
• What are the barriers and how you overcome them?
• What tools do you need to get started? What help do you need?

There is a problem with the feedback in this video, there was not many people left to give feedback. By the time the workshops had finished the taxi`s had started to arrive to pick up those who needed them. the taxi`s came early so they could be available for the school run.
