Short Breaks Funding for Carers - Time to Live

A new funding stream is being launched for carers in Fife to help with the costs of taking a break from caring. The fund is called Time to Live, and it can provide assistance with a range of costs associated with short breaks such as transport, accommodation, leisure activities or supported holidays. This funding is part of the Short Breaks Fund, administered by Shared Care Scotland on behalf of the National Carer Organisations and the Scottish Government. CVS Fife is managing the fund locally with help from Fife Carers Centre, Crossroads Fife Central and Crossroads Dunfermline.

We are aiming to publicise this funding as widely as possible so a broad cross-section of individual carers can have the opportunity to make an application for funding. We are aware that many voluntary organisations work directly with carers; additionally, many organisations will have volunteers and members of staff who are carrying out a caring role. Our ebulletin also goes to a range of contacts in public sector agencies - we would like to encourage everyone to think about passing this bulletin on to relevant contacts.

Redcourt Supported Holidays, part of St Christopher’s Trust in the Peak District offer holidays and short breaks designed specifically for people with learning disabilities. 

We have redeveloped the 19^th Century Country House on our 5 acre site into a luxury hotel with en-suite guest rooms, bar, tea room, restaurant, gym,  games room, lounge and conference room.

Our holidays aim to promote inclusion, develop self-esteem and encourage participation.

Our team has been providing holidays in the Peak District National Park for people with learning disabilities for over 7 years and the trust has been providing domiciliary care, vocational training and (more recently) supported living to people with learning disabilities since the 1950s. 

Redcourt support staff are on a 24-hour rota to provide basic assistance and this is included in the price of all our packages.  All our instructors, guides, drivers and support staff are qualified and experienced in the field of learning disabilities.

With the completion of Redcourt Country House Hotel we are able to bring every aspect of our holiday operations in-house which gives us control over availability of accommodation and price.  We offer choice, security, value for money and the opportunity to enjoy a range of fun activities from one central social base.

We have two and three bedroom apartments available which have been built with extra wide doors and turning circles to allow easy access throughout for wheelchairs.

Situated in the centre of Puerto Pollensa close to the town square, their central location means restaurants and shops are easily accessible. The beach and pine walk/promenade area are less than 50 metres away.

The resort area is flat and is already a popular destination for wheelchair users. There is always plenty to do in the area, whether it is a dip in the sea, a leisurely evening stroll or a swim in the local pool which provides a chair/hoist for disabled access.
