ExxonMobil The Energy Challenge

The Energy Challenge is a partnership between Energy Action Scotland and Community Service Volunteers (CSV) in Scotland and is funded by ExxonMobil. The Challenge aims to provide information and support to householders across Scotland to help them manage their fuel bills, save energy and keep warm in their homes. Members of the CSV's Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) have received energy awareness training from Energy Action Scotland, making them 'Energy Champions'. This leaflet is specially designed to help the volunteers provide information and advice on energy matters to people within the community.

Free Advice for Carers on moving and handling

THERE is still time for carers to sign up for free moving and handling awareness workshops and equipment demonstration days on 2nd September, 18th September and 28th October.

Laura Lapadula, Manual Handling Consultant Social Work Services is calling anyone who looks after a family member or friend to take advantage of the free help and advice available.

She explained, "Carers provide an invaluable service and it is vital that we help protect them.

"Every year, significant numbers of these carers are forced to give up caring because of back pain or other injury caused by the activities they carry out on a day-to-day basis."

To try and address this issue the Manual Handling Team in Social Work Service has been working alongside colleagues in Fife Council Education Service, NHS Fife, the Fife wide Postural Management Service, Adam Smith College, PAMIS and the Fife Carers Association to develop the workshops.

Any family carer can enrol for one of these free half-day sessions on Moving and Handling Awareness which will be held 10 am-1.30pm on: 2nd September, Dunfermline; 18th September, and 28th October in Glenrothes.

To book a place or to obtain more information, carers can contact Fife Carers Centre, Tel: 01592 642999 or email: centre@fifecarers.co.uk
